Pennsylvania Dangerous Toys Attorneys

Here's a brief discussion of what can make a toy dangerous.

  1. Small components or easily removed parts
A young child, for instance, might accidentally swallow a piece of metal, rubber, or plastic and get sick or suffer stomach injuries. Most major products on the market today come with warnings regarding small and/or loose parts, but it's always a good idea to inspect toys yourself to ensure they're safe for your child.
  2. Magnets, lead paint, or other metals
Children who ingest lead, magnets, or heavy metals can suffer poisoning. Lead paint is a particular danger in "classic" unsafe toys, such as model cars from the early 20th century. If your child accidentally ingests lead or metal, call your local poison center ASAP.
  3. Not appropriate for the child's age
Particularly if you live in a house with several kids of different ages, it's important to prevent younger children from playing with toys intended for their older counterparts. 'Big kid' toys can have small parts that can act as choking hazards. Such toys might also contain rubber bands, sharp edges, or other potentially dangerous elements.
  4. Manufacturer or consumer group issued recall
Despite the vigilance of federal regulators and consumer protection groups, every once in a while, major toys get released to the market that later prove to have serious design or manufacturing defects. Keep an eye on published toy recall lists to protect your kids.

If your child has been injured by a dangerous toy, you may be able to hold the manufacturer, distributor, or marketer of that toy liable for damages, such as medical bills, pain and suffering, and other costs connected with the accident.
